The Young Woman of the Year Competition is a rewarding opportunity to become involved in the Kempsey Show Society and the wider local community. The program focuses on personal development and helps participants build skills in areas such as public speaking, community involvement, event participation and personal presentation.
The competition is designed to be supportive and encouraging, offering entrants the chance to meet like-minded people, grow in confidence and explore future opportunities within agricultural shows and community events.
The competition is open across three age groups:
Senior: 17 to 25 years as at 1 May 2025
Teen: 13 years to under 17 years as at 1 May 2025
Junior: 8 years to under 13 years as at 1 May 2025
The competition is held prior to the Show, with judging taking place through an interview with a panel of local judges and a sit-down meal. Winners are announced on Tuesday night of the Show during the official presentation.
Participants are encouraged to be themselves and enjoy the experience, with the program offering pathways to further opportunities such as Zone competitions and events beyond the local Show.
All entrants receive free entry into the Kempsey Show.
On the Tuesday of the Show, entrants will be present throughout the day, assisting where required and participating in various activities. Place getters may also be sashed in selected Show sections such as cattle and horse events.
The official opening ceremony and Young Woman of the Year presentation will be held on Tuesday evening.
Entrants are asked to wear a smart casual outfit, suitable for walking in the arena. Practical footwear is recommended.
